My Mission
Academic Therapy uses a variety of techniques to facilitate processing, develop autonomy, focus on executive functioning, and improve abstract learning for students with disabilities. In combination with my more than 15 years working in the field of education, I have supplemented my teaching experiences with graduate-level coursework in psychology, education, reading and math instruction, and technology. This results in methodologies that are both research and results based. These systematic techniques integrate social media, video chats, mobile technology, videos, apps, and innovative teaching strategies to create opportunities for academic success. Working with teachers, trainers, schools, and education organizations, I collaborate to create 21st Century environments for "my" teens and young adults with learning disabilities and ADHD.
PSYCHOLOGY: Affective Development/Behavior Management, Psychology of Learning Disabilities, Psychology of ADHD, Understanding ADD/ADHD in the Classroom
EDUCATION: Instructional Methods of Special Education, Different Ways of Learning, Learning Strategies for Students with Disabilities, Evaluating the Effectiveness of the Educational Process
READING/MATH INSTRUCTION: Diagnostic Teaching of Reading, Methods of Teaching Reading in the Secondary Content Areas, Reading and Study in College Content Areas, Mathematics Learning and Teaching, Mathematics History and Technology
TECHNOLOGY: Instructional Media Tools, Teaching and Learning Online, Web-Based Learning and Technology, Course Development in Distance Education
It is my vision to work myself out of a job. When I am no longer necessary, it means that the teachers and learners have the skills to be independent. That is a time for celebration.
